Safety Week Arrives at Meadowlake!

We learned so much during our Safety Week!  On Tuesday we had some very special visitors from the Huntersville Fire Department and Police Department.  First, the fireman brought all of his special gear and dressed in front of us in his complete fireman’s gear.  It was great to see that there was just a “daddy” inside and that we should not be afraid of a fireman in our house and hide from him, but to go and tackle him and let him know exactly where we are.

Then, we toured the pumper truck that they brought to show us.

Officer Brown came in her police car and showed us all her police gear.  Her belt alone weighed 40 lbs!  But, she told us her best weapon was her communication skills!  It was her best defense against the bad guys.  Then we got to go in the back of her police car and she gave us a safety coloring book and tattoos!  She said she was here to serve us, and we should never be afraid to ask an officer for help if our parents ever get lost.

Our teachers also performed  smoke experiments, we learned how to dial 9-1-1 in an emergency, stop-drop and roll, what’s safe and what’s not in our home, we even  made our own fire hats.

The preschool made Child IDs for all the students with their pictures, height, weight, hair and eye color, plus contact numbers in case their parents would ever need it, it would all be in one place and up-to-date.

Safety Week is one of our most fun and important weeks.  The skills we teach this week will stay with our students and hopefully serve them well should the occasion ever arise.
