Meadowlake – Prayer Walk

Meadowlake Church commemorated the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2001 alongside their local Huntersville firefighters, police, and EMT. The church sponsored a community-wide Prayer Walk to remember those we lost and to honor those who serve.

Meadowlake Church felt called to make the “9/11” anniversary more than just another Sunday. It was an opportunity to remember the firefighters, police, and EMT who lost their lives saving others; and, to honor those responders who put their lives on the line in their community every day.

The event began by raising the American Flag on the firemen’s Ladder Truck, allowing the large flag to wave prominently 75 feet in the air. Firefighters invited the children and adults to climb in and explore the fire trucks that were parked in front of the church.

The Worship Service began at 10:30am where Pastor Fred Lowrance called each person to remember, to honor, and to be transformed. A card with the name and picture of a fallen firefighter, police, or EMT from “9/11” was given to those in attendance. Pastor Lowrance asked that they pray for these heroic servants throughout the days and weeks ahead. He then raised up our local police, firefighters, and EMT’s and thanked them for their dedicated service. His sermon ended with a challenge that we use the courageous example set by our emergency responders to inspire us to serve and sacrifice in our own ways.

At 11:30am, over 225 people began the Prayer Walk from Meadowlake Church to the Huntersville Fire Station. They were escorted along Gilead Road by police and firefighters. Once they arrived, the group gathered in a circle and prayed together for those we lost on “9/11” and for those local responders who serve us. With a full and grateful heart, the group began the walk back to Meadowlake Church.

Meadowlake Church would like to thank the Huntersville Fire Department, Huntersville Police, and North Mecklenburg Rescue Squad for supporting the event. Also, Meadowlake would like to thank EarthFare for helping to sponsor the Prayer Walk. EarthFare is also a supporter of our local public servants. They offer free cups of coffee to all police officers, firefighters, and EMT’s as well as a 5% discount every day for all military personnel.
